Bruxism (Clenching and Grinding)
Bruxism, also known as clenching and grinding, can lead to excessive wear on the teeth and may cause permanent damage to the teeth and the jaw joints. It can occur day or night and the many causes of bruxism are still being studied. The signs and symptoms of bruxism vary according to the nature, frequency, duration and strength of the behaviour.

While some people are unaware of their habit, others suffer pain and sensitivity of the teeth, facial pain and headaches, worn, fractured or loose teeth and jaw joint issues may all result. Dr Wood can talk to you about a diagnosis of bruxism and discuss treatment options and possible behavioural changes to help manage the problem, and repair of any damage that may be done.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment may be required to save a tooth that would otherwise require extraction. It involves the removal of “the nerve” or pulp of the tooth followed by complete and thorough cleaning and shaping of the pulp chamber and root. An inert root filling is then placed in this space so as to prevent bacteria from entering and decaying the remaining tooth and causing an infection the bone that supports the tooth.

A number of visits are required to ensure a viable long-term result. Root canal treatment can vary in complexity depending upon the individual tooth. CBCT imaging and the use of an Operating Microscope provides for higher quality and more accurate results.  It must be noted that once completed a root canal treated tooth will require a crown to protect the integrity of the remaining tooth.

Tooth Extraction
Dr Wood is fully qualified, competent and equipped to conduct extractions in the chair under local anaesthetic including wisdom teeth and multiple extractions without going to hospital.
